Current Status
2004-06-26:
We've just tweaked the layout for the User Publishing pages now that people are using this feature. Most recently updated pages now float to the top of the ever-changing list.
Turns out people are using HLOM to publish some interesting stuff... And, in almost equal measure, some really weird stuff.
2004-06-25:
Our fears over HLOM's bandwidth use are easing slightly now that users have got those massive bookmark files safely uploaded.
We've added a Testiminals page to show off just how happy some of our happiest users are...
2004-06-21:
HLOM is still playing nice and running fast, new sign-ups have slowed to manageable rate, the bandwidth creeps steadily upward, the number of people wanting RSS feeds grows inexorably, and bug reports have dropped off to a slight trickle.
And those Google ad-words seem to be spreading like a rash.
We're working on new features and fixes as time permits...

Update : 2004-06-19, 12:26 GMT :
Over a thousand users and all's well.
We've decided to have a play with Google ad-words on the HLOM users' publish pages... No idea if they'll be a permanent feature, we'll see how potential benefits stack up against the complaints.

Update : 2004-06-18, 11:38 GMT :
Yesterday we got mentioned on boingboing. The resulting flood of
new sign-ups almost buried the server. Normal service has
now been resumed, and the HLOM server is running quite happily.
After the yesterdays boingboing incident we suddenly found ourselves
with substantially more users that we were expecting. This makes us
very, very happy. And very, very tired (and slightly hungover), having
stayed up far too late responding to mails from our new users.
On the flip side, we're now monitoring bandwidth usage very closely
and wondering how much running this service is going to cost.
We have a bunch of minor bugs and new features requests to work on
and will be updating HLOM over the next few days...

Update : 2004-06-17, 17:05 GMT :
As a result of the wave of new users and the massive surge in people importing
some huge bookmark files, HLOM may be running very, very slowly...
if you want to create a new account it maybe advisable to wait a few hours...
We got boingboinged
last night (thanks guys).
And a zillion-and-half new users signed up. OK, I exagerate, but it was quite a few.
And then the server fell over. Fortunately, it managed a fairly graceful recovery, but
is still under enough load to prevent it from running at its usual speed.
When we say we're beta testing, that's exactly what we mean...
Patience, they say, is a virtue. Normal (ie fast and zappy) service will be restored,
we just can't quite say when.
We've seen a few serious power-users trying HLOM out today. Consequently, Tommy has lost
his long-standing number one position on the list of Users With the Most Links.
In fact, he's only just hanging on to being in the top ten...
It's so nice to see HLOM being used. Especially by people who so obviously need it... :)
It's also nice to get feedback from users. We've had a bunch of nice mails
and a stack of really cool feature requests; keep 'em coming.
2004-06-10:
Our limited beta has been going very well indeed. Feature requests have been flowing and
there's talk of adding the ability to create RSS feeds and sharing with non-HLOM users
via email.
New and improved features now includes an as-yet undocumented Export function
that allows HLOM to output Mozilla-compatible bookmark files...
While there's still bound to be a few bugs
in there, they're obviously not the kind that show up too readily.
We figure that we're going to need a much larger group of testers if we're
going to find/fix them before the heat-death of the universe..
So, we're opening HLOM up to a public beta. So far the bandwidth and server-load
situation looks like it's under control, but we'll be keeping a close eye on it
as more users sign up. The public beta will be open to new sign-ups for a limited, but
indeterminate, period. We reserve the right to stop accepting new
subscribers if the load gets too great.
2004-05-18:
Surprisingly, given the history of this project,
the public beta started as predicted.
We're inviting people to join a few at a time, so as to avoid a sudden, catastrophic
flood of bandwidth-sucking power users.
So far, so good. People have got accounts up and running, a few minor bugs have
been uncovered and mercilessly fixed, and a trickle of feature requests has
started.
On the off-chance that our testers start using HLOM's publishing feature, you can
now find an index of the published pages here:

2004-05-11:
We're just putting the final touches to Hyperlinkomatic. Or at least, the final
touches to the current feature set. There's about a zillion other features now
lurking in the queue.
In the next few days we will be starting the private beta.
